Procedure: Gastric Sleeve

In June 2014, I started researching the gastric sleeve per my Doctors recommendations. At that time, I was 45 years old, weighed 287 Lbs, had sleep apnea, snored and was a Diabetic that was using nearly 200 units of insulin a day. I really did not feel unhealthy, but I just could not consistently maintain normal blood sugar levels. My A1C average would range from 8.5 to13 over the last ten years. I finally decided to have the Gastric Bypass done at the end of year as my insurance paid for almost 100% of the cost and this procedure seemed to be the least invasive to me and would allow me to return to work within a week. I then set the appointment for 12-9-2014 and took that week off of work as vacation. I had the procedure done early on Monday morning and was up and walking around the hospital by 1PM. They kept me overnight for observation and released me to go home by Noon Tuesday. Under the direction of the hospital staff i remained active through the next week without the need to take pain reliever medications. I was back at at work by next Monday moving a little slowly, but was able to do my job as a printer service Technician and by the middle of the week, was not in any pain at all. I immediately stopped all insulin injections, my snoring and sleep apnea have disappeared and to date, I have lost 80 LBS and ten inches around my waist. I only take two pills a day to control my blood sugar and my last two A1C readings have both been below 6. I try to eat better now, but do not follow any particular diet and eat anything that I want as long as I stop now when I am beginning to feel full. My weight loss has leveled out and I have maintained a weight of 207 LBS for the last five months. i am sure that if i were to exercise and modify my eating habits that I could definitely lose more weight, but I am very happy with my results this far and my main concern is that my Diabetes is finally under control for the first time in 13 years.
