Minimally Invasive
Gastric Band Management

Our team is committed to assisting individuals in achieving weight loss success and sustainable wellness. While we no longer offer Lap-Band® surgery, we have expertise in providing comprehensive care for gastric band patients. Our personalized approach caters to Lap-band patients from Dallas, Fort Worth, Texas and beyond.

What Is Gastric Banding with Lap-Band?

As medical technology advances, new and improved treatment options become available. Gastric banding with Lap-band was a groundbreaking weight loss procedure when it was first introduced. Unlike other commonly performed bariatric surgeries such as gastric bypass and gastric sleeve, Lap-Band involves inserting a medical device around the upper part of the stomach.

While all medical devices may require maintenance, Lap-Band procedures have been linked to a high rate of complications and a significant number of patients who fail to achieve desired weight loss results. At DFW Bariatric Institute, we are proud to provide Lap-Band management for individuals who are satisfied with their Lap-Band, and those who wish to remove or revise the device.

How Does Gastric Band Management Work?

We use fluoroscopy in the management of Lap-Band for our patients. Fluoroscopy is a type of medical imaging that allows our clinicians to see dynamic images of the body. At DFW Bariatric Institute, we utilize fluoroscopy to look at the position of Lap-Bands in our patients. Research has demonstrated that fluoroscopy offers numerous benefits for Lap-Band patients, such as the ability to promptly identify any complications and dispense more precise band adjustments if necessary.

Gastric Band Revision & Removal

If you are experiencing Lap-Band complications, have not achieved your weight loss goals, or have regained weight after Lap-Band surgery, you may consider removing the band or undergoing a revision procedure. Many patients who were dissatisfied with their gastric band results have subsequently achieved long-term weight loss success with band-to-sleeve, band-to-bypass revision, or band-to-duodenal switch surgery.

FAQs About Lap-Band Management

Can DFW Bariatric Institute help me with Lap-Band management if my Lap-Band surgery was performed elsewhere?

Yes. At DFW Bariatric Institute, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to improve their health and well-being. In addition to being available to manage Lap-Band for patients whose original procedure was performed elsewhere, we also offer Lap-Band removal or revision, regardless of where the original lap-band surgery was performed.

What are some of the indications of Lap-Band complications?

Lap-Band surgery is associated with several complications, including band erosion, band slippage, and a narrowing of the esophagus. Some symptoms that may signal the presence of these complications include weight regain, heartburn, nausea, pain, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing. It is important to monitor your health and contact your bariatric surgeon if you experience any of these symptoms.

How do I determine the right revision procedure for me?

At DFW Bariatric Institute, we offer a variety of advanced revision options to ensure that we can provide the one that is most suitable for you. At your personal consultation, we’ll review your complete medical history and discuss the options available to you.

"93 pounds later, I have a whole new life. I’ve gone from a size 24 down to 10-12. I no longer have high blood pressure or high cholesterol. My knees, which were in sad shape before surgery, don’t hurt anymore. I joined a gym and participate in water aerobics and a latin impact aerobics class. My whole life has changed. I have much more confidence in myself and love to be with people."

Lost 110 pounds*

“I am currently 29 years old and weigh 130 lbs. Before surgery I weighed almost 240 lbs…This is the best thing I have done with my life and would do it again today. It changed my life drastically. My surgeon said to me, 'I can do 50% for you and give you the surgery, but the other 50% is up to you. Your eating, your exercise, your total outlook on life make up the other 50%. And what you want from the surgery is what you will get, and the life you will gain.'”

“I went to a seminar and left there with complete ease, feeling like everyone cared about me and my health. On first office visit I was totally impressed…I never felt rushed in the office, and always felt everyone cared. My surgery was completed and I am now down 90 pounds…The biggest part of recovery comes from the encouragement DFW Bariatric gives. Everyone is always positive and takes the time to explain things in a positive way.”

“There are no words to express the amount of change that weight loss surgery has brought to my life. I am a 54 year old female. There were so many things I was unable to do before the surgery that I blamed on age. It wasn’t my age at all, it was the weight. I am 30 again…The day of my surgery, I weighed 299 pounds. Today I weigh 138 and wear a size 6…I feel so good about myself now. The surgery saved my life!”
