Sharon Q.

Procedure: Gastric Sleeve

Weight Lost: 51 lbs.

I came to DFW Bariatrics after 4 years of continuous slips of my lap-band, that was performed by another surgeon. DFW Bariatrics informed me that I was never a candidate for lap-band. Amazing how you can make yourself think you’ve done research and chosen the best option, when the truth is you never considered another option. The day I had lap-band I was 316.6 lbs. Four years later on the day I converted to the gastric sleeve I weighed 296.2 lbs. Today, 3 months out of surgery, I weigh 245.2 lbs. Not only can I see a change in my appearance but in my attitude as well. People just don’t get the mental and emotional aspects of obesity until they’ve been there. I love the people who say, “Well if you just went on a liquid diet and/or reduced your portions, you would not need surgery.” I suppose there is some truth in that but there surely isn’t a lot of reality in it.

My reality is I’m a 40 yr. old thyroid cancer survivor and I also have PCOS, so for me losing weight is more difficult than others. Since having surgery, I find myself sharing my story more; I’m not so ashamed my weight. Thanks to Facebook, I have come into contact with several friends who are looking into bariatric surgery. I have been able to offer insight, support, and personal experience, which is almost as rewarding as losing weight. I’m already halfway to my personal goal of losing 100 lbs. and there is not a doubt in my mind I will get there. I look forward to making the claim that I am also an obesity survivor!

I am so thankful I was referred to DFW Bariatrics. I will forever be indebted to my doctor and his staff.
