How to Fit a Workout into Your Already Busy Schedule

All moms have busy schedules, which can make it difficult to find time for exercise. Whether you are taking care of children all day, or working outside of the home, I know that finding time to take care of yourself can be tough. Here are a few ways that I find time to get my work outs in.

  1. Plan exercise daily! I can’t stress this enough. If you don’t schedule time to exercise, then it won’t happen. Put exercise on your daily schedule. If that means that you work in pushups and planks while you are watching your favorite show, then make sure you do it. There are many activities you can be doing at home to burn calories and firm up. Never underestimate the power of lunges and squats.
  2. Make it easy on yourself and find something that you enjoy doing that is accessible to you. If you like a certain activity like walking, bike riding or swimming, then you are more likely to stick with it. If you have young kids, then find a gym with childcare. Your kids will enjoy playing and you won’t have to worry about them while working out. Find a gym close to your home. You don’t have a lot of free time, so you don’t want to spend it in the car getting to the gym.
  3. Be accountable to someone. Workout with a friend. You are more likely to show up if someone is waiting for you. You can also choose to pay for classes or a trainer. Working out in groups is a great motivator AND no one wants to waste money.

Being a mom is a lot of hard work, but if you are going to do your best, then you need to make time to take care of yourself. Make it your priority for the next few weeks to schedule time to exercise and see how much better you feel.
