At DFW Bariatric Institute, we are dedicated to providing weight loss options that are minimally invasive and highly effective. We are excited to offer the Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty, also known as incisionless sleeve or ESG, to patients seeking non-surgical weight loss in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. This innovative procedure promotes weight loss without any incisions, stapling, or external scarring.
In the ESG procedure, the patient is sedated while a bariatric surgeon utilizes an endoscope to access the stomach through the mouth. The endoscope is a flexible tube with a camera attached. The doctor then uses a special endoscopic suturing device to reduce the size of the stomach. This procedure is different from a traditional gastric sleeve, or vertical sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) because no part of the stomach is removed. Rather, it is simply stitched to create smaller pouch. Once the available stomach space is reduced in this way, the capacity for food is lessened, which allows you to feel fuller while consuming less food. Along with smart nutritional choices and a healthy lifestyle, the ESG procedure allows you to lose weight while feeling satisfied with fewer calories.
In an initial consultation appointment, one of our experienced doctors will evaluate your health and discuss your medical history and weight loss goals to help you determine if you are a candidate for Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty. In general, you may be a candidate if:
The Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) procedure is a powerful tool to aid weight loss. Initial medical studies show that patients typically consumed 59% fewer calories and lost up to 20% of their total body weight two years after undergoing Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)2.
Results after ESG will vary by individual, and those who commit to healthy lifestyle changes are likely to see the most weight loss success. Due to the non-surgical and minimally invasive nature of this procedure, the risk of complications is low compared to surgical options. Recovery time is also relatively quick, with patients typically returning to their regular activities within 48 hours.
The Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is not typically covered by health insurance. However, at DFW Bariatric Institute, we are committed to putting better health within reach. We partner with independent medical lenders to offer financing options for our patients.
For the weeks following the Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) procedure, patients will follow a detailed diet provided by their doctor. While the Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is an effective means to kickstart weight loss, it is important that patients commit to healthy lifestyle changes in order to optimize and maintain weight loss success.
