Procedure: Gastric Sleeve

In September 2013 I was diagnosed with estrogen positive breast cancer. I underwent a double mastectomy and 4 rounds of chemo. During chemo I lost my hair, but gained 63 pounds!! Afterward the medication I was put on to inhibit estrogen production, caused me to hold approximately 20 pounds of fluid all the time. In the spring of 2015 I spoke with my oncologist, searching for other options. We changed meds and removed my ovaries. The fluid came off, but I still was having a hard time with the weight gain. That’s when I decided to talk to a doctor at DFW Bariatrics. After meeting with my oncologist again and discussing how fat produces estrogen and estrogen is my enemy & getting her blessing on the weight loss surgery, I call and made my appointment. I explained to my doctor that my goal was more about getting the extra fat off to reduce the natural estrogen levels in my body, so that I could more effectively fight off cancer!! So, on September 2, 2105, I had my sleeve surgery! I list June 25 as my start date because that is when I had my official file picture taken. Since that date, I have lost 70+ pounds, dropped numerous inches and sizes and have gotten a clean bill of health from all of my doctors!!
