Procedure: Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy

Weight Lost: 98 lbs.

My Story: I think my turning point was my Diabetes diagnosis in 2009. Actually, 2009 was a really hard year for me. I was also diagnosed with Rhuematoid Arthritis, Sleep Apnea and was borderline Hypertension. It seemed like every time I went to the doctor it was something new. The Diabetes diagnosis was by far the hardest. My mother was a Type 2 Diabetic for 27 years. I watched her struggle and eventually die from complications of the disease when I was 22 years old. I have seen first hand what uncontrolled Diabetes can do. When I was diagnosed at 44 years of age and my primary doctor told me I would be dead in 10 years if I didn’t lose weight, it really hit home. Especially because he was predicting I would die at the same age my mother did. I asked him about weight loss surgery. His reply was “I don’t care how you lose the weight, just loose it.

It took me another 6 months before I scheduled my consult at DFW Bariatrics. I was immediately impressed with him and his staff. After completing my insurance requirements, I had the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. This day was the beginning of my new life and I haven’t looked back since. I lost a total of 98 lbs along with all my co-morbidities. I am no longer Diabetic, I no longer have Sleep Apnea and my last blood pressure reading was 112/70. My joint pain from the Rheumatoid Arthritis is greatly reduced and I am actually able to enjoy life. Thank you DFW Bariatrics and your wonderful staff for helping me live my life again!!
